I just went to sort through my older images for ones that haven't sold yet and all the non-sellers are already gone.
Where did they go? They aren't showing up among disabled images. Did they go to the free section or were they deleted from the site?
I don't want to contribute to the free section. Some of those images are selling on other sites. I would appreciate knowing what happened to my images before I could clean them out myself...

Your images did not disappear. The old no-seller images were not deleted yet and did not go to the free section (nor they will ever go unless you explicitly agree to this). Please look again.
Also, in the future, please contact support for this kind of problems instead of writing them on the public forums. |

I don't understand "pixel-envy". I shoot with an 8.2 MP Canon 30D. It produces great images when I do my part of the job. I would imagine that any designer who needed a large print size would also have on hand pro-level upsizing software to handle the need. Why get excited about a the "Super MP cameras" or arbitrarily saying that "10MP" needs to be the standard. Increased MP does not necessarily mean higher quality. |

I agree with the fact that maximum size images should be 10mp or even 12mp so it benefits people who have high end cameras, the difference with a 350D and a MarkII are huge and the images cost the same?
At the moment the mp's at different sizes are too close together. A buyer will pay the same prize to get an 8mp file (A4 print) and a 17mp (A3 print) file which is more than twice the resolution and on the other hand they are paying double prize to go from a 5mp to a 8mp where the difference in size is not that big.
I am not sure how to feel about subscriptions, I guess is ok, 0.25 doesn't seem a lot but then again lots of users might be dowloading files for the sake of filling the subscription quota rather than actually needing the photo.
I like the idea of subscribers to be able to download 5mp images only and have a more expensive subscription for them to be able to download higher res files. |

Why not have the subscription model like the other sales model. Where a large MP (say over 4MP) image takes 2 of their subscription credits instead of one. The photographer gets $0.50 if their large MP image gets downloaded, and $0.25 if a small version is downloaded.
It's not a huge change for the subscription member (still a bargain), but it does make the photographer a little more money and make them (us) feel like the larger images are recognized for their greater value and use.
It also makes the buyer more likely to consider what size really fits their need before downloading the larger size. If they can do with smaller, I imagine most would go with it. And if they really need the larger size, it would be well worth it to them still to use 2 credits. |

ShutterMama has a good point and thinking about fair prices for everyone. All things what admins said about designers it is not completely truth. Well, I think (and know some of them) that subscribers are mostly agencies and individuals who use pictures to administrate internet news portals or small magazines. And the truth is they don't need picture larger than 4MP ever. They buy 50-60 pictures for news and just ONE FOR THE COVER.
So, please give me really good reason why give them 12 or 20MP picture for 0,25$. I see that lot of photographers and illustrators thinking like me to charge them for at least double credits.
Other things about pixels and price levels will be ok but this thing is something need to be change. |

I guess there's a reason why I have a tremendous respect for Dreamstime as an agency. You guys are always able to work out equations that are beneficial to both the buyers and the sellers... Not an easy task, but you manage to nail it every single time. Brilliant work, once again. |

Mensaje Cotizado: The additional royalties should give you a motivation for upgrading the camera. ;)

Achilles, you're points are well taken. Given that not all MP are equal, I prefer to wait until I can afford a D2X or even D200 before upgrading. Upgrading from a D50 to a D80 doesn't make technical sense or a good business decision. For the portrait side of my photography business, I need to wait to make a bigger jump in camera bodies than an incremental upgrade from one prosumer camera to the next.
It takes selling 1000s of images here to afford a D2X. We all need to get mileage out of our existing equipment investments. When I'm a D2X owner, I will want it to last 4-5 years before upgrading again.
I understand I can continue to sell at the smaller sizes, but I don't agree that buyers are necesarily getting more for their money when they buy the higher MP sizes. Quality of optics and other factors aren't included in the MP specification. |

Regarding the Deleting of non selling images, why not take the VIEWS into consideration. High views with no sales could still mean there is interest in the photo. For example, if it has 0 sales but over X number of views, keep the image.

I read it the other way: high views with no sales suggests that people would have bought it if it was any use. It's not as if it has not been found on the search engine.
The free section does not appeal to me at all. I argued strongly for the weekly free image and Serban eventually agreed but the benefits of that would not be repeated by having many, many free images available.
I'm starting to regret having downsized my 5D pix to 6mp to upload here. It saved upload time and there was no point in having 12.8MP here when there was no advantage to it; now they will miss the biggest size. Oh well, you can't always win :) |

A thought for those who want to wait for the right buyer:-
Microstock is a volume business. It isn't worth having a lot of files for which the demand is vey low. If you have looked at your zero sales files, and you think they are good quality and useful, but maybe just occasionally, why not submit them to a trad site?
There is a site out there which will allow you to submit almost any subject, so long is the quality is good enough.
We all take photos which we can't submit here for various reasons, or which after a while we realise won't sell here. They're stock, but not microstock:-)
We have made just over $2000 in the last year from photos which we thought would not sell in sufficient volume as microstock. It's worth thinking about.
Just my 2 cents.

The new policy looks good. I am just a little confused about the subscriptions sales. How do I find whether a sale was through a subscription? Is it in the "Download Type" column in the earnings page of the image? When it says "Member download", does this mean it is not a sale through subscription? |

Do you routinely view images that you have no use for? I do web design, have purchased a large number of stock images, and I will view several images that "MAY" work and then pick the best one. When I view an image I feel it has potential for the project I'm working on. |

But if an image is persistently reviewed as having potential for a project, then persistently rejected in favour of an alternative one, doesn't that suggest the image is not quite right? |

I don't get the whole concept about the free section.
Putting an image up for free for a week to generete interest, and give buyers a taste is fine, and it's only for a week or two.
Byt we are alle here to sell images. Why then give tem away. It seems to me, that we want to attract people and companies that want to spent money here, and we don't want to attract those only looking for free images.
DT beeing a high quality collection, should not give away hight quaity products, and if the images in the free section is not good enough to be at the main site, they should certainly not be used to promote DT, because they are not of the best quality.
To me this free section seems to need a rethink from management. I cant see how it fits in with the rest of the DT concept or strategy.
A lot of us here sell on multiple sites, and it would not be good to have images in the free section, that are selling for good money else where.....
To me DT is very consistent in the way it has been acting during the past years, and also sales and income are very consistent. Thats very nice. I would like that to continue. A controlled growth and development towards clear and defined targets.
Lately I've seen DT images in use en some of the biggest dayli papers here, and I expect to see more of that in the future.
To mee thats a sign of that DT are moving in the right direction, and I cant see how implementation af a free section suports that.
It's not a new, just what a lot of others are doing. Its in my view not goind to any good for the photographers nor the agency - It's not in line with the message the agency are promoting in their marketing (Quality for money) so really - does it belong here ??

Where do deactivated images fall in the great scheme of things? Say an image that was inactive for a year so it appears not to have had any sales but it wan't available for purchase during that time? Are they over a year old and subject to deletion?
RE: 10 mp suggestion for cutoff suggestion. I would think the Canon 30D superior to the Rebel XTi.
I agree with the subscription comments. I've been seriously considering pulling my stuff from a subscription site because I don't feel the payout is worth it. I also think from a marketing standpoint, there are too many "levels". I understand the reasoning but it's never a good idea to complicate things. |

Mensaje Cotizado: I don't like the idea of selling full size images (12.7Mp) through subscription. I would rather limit the size to about 5Mp.
If someone needs a bigger file, they can afford to pay more for it.
I hope you will reconsider this, or if not, allow us to opt out.

Personally I would suggest an even smaller limit for subscription, like 2MP.

I agree. I can't see the wisdom in giving images away. A free image each week or even each day is fine but a collection of possibly thousands of images for free is something else.
Please reconsider.
